Patrick Munnelly – Junior International Rower
Patrick is a leaving cert student in the Marist College and a member of Athlone Boat Club. With just 4 years rowing experience his progress has been incredible and culminated last summer when he won the Junior 18 Single Scull at the National Championships – the first time his club had won a national title in 27 years.
Patrick’s connection with Athlone RSC goes back a long way, from learning to swim here as a child to becoming a regular face in the gym over the years, particularly during the winter training period. When he’s not lifting weights he can be seen putting in long endurance sessions on the wattbike in preparation for the competitive season.
His commitment to rowing is obvious to all and has been recognised with 3 International appearances first representing Ireland in France in 2014 and again at the European Junior Rowing Championships in the Czech Republic last May. Then in August 2015 he was part of the Irish Junior Quadruple Scull which won two gold medals at the Coupe de la Jeunesse in Hungary.
Patrick’s long term goals include qualifying for the World Championships in the Under 23 category over the next few years.
We would like to thank Patrick for taking on the role of Ambassador and wish him
well over the next year.
